I take Yoga classes a couple nights a week, and after I found Yin Yoga, I've decided it's something I can't live without. Let me tell you about my personal experience.
I'm 42 years old and I have 4 kids, and around two years ago I started having back pain and I was really confused as to why or what it was in particular. I came to find out that I had Osteoarthritis in my L4 and L5 (not fun!). First thing the doctor prescribed me- pills for inflammation, pain and physical therapy. That day, I cried for hours, because I genuinely and strongly dislike pills or medication that could alter the normal functions of my body. Although I decided not to take them, I continued going to physical therapy. Not to sound boring, but it's super expensive even with insurance! Therapy did help me decrease the inflammation but arthritis is degenerative so there is no cure... I prayed for help, patience and wisdom to figure this out. By talking to people and doing research, I found yoga around my neighborhood and I was introduced to YinYoga.
Friends, it’s beneficial both mentally and emotionally. Yin is the feminine form of Yoga which consists of few poses per class that lasts longer (45 seconds to 5 minutes per pose) and stretches ligaments and joints. Amazing! Yin is really for all ages from children to adult adult age. You push yourself to your own level of tolerance. I’m not a flexible girl but I try and I know I am doing it right when the stretch is comforting. According to Wikipedia Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality. Read more.
I shot some pictures during practice to share an idea of the sequence of positions and how easy both the exercise and movements along with the mind body connection. Many of the people, including myself tend to fall asleep during the different positions and at the end of the class. Sometimes I even hear classmates snoring! It’s so relaxing. You will see my face on the video at the end of the class, when I am practically reborn and soooo relaxed. So recommended!
I'd love to hear your comments and to share my experience with anybody is actually needing to listen this today.
Please check on the video of my private class with Laura Stempel (the best).
